Now i'm no Toy expert, but working on The Rainy Day Box Co and having a large interest in traditional play means I do have a little understanding of toys that can do more than entertain. So before you dash to the shops on your Christmas Shopping Spree, I hope this mini guide may be able to help with your purchase ideas a little.
So picked 5 categories of development that in my opinion can be improved through play. I've also added some of the toys we've had in the past that fit into these areas
Imaginative: Toys like Lego/Duplo are my favourite for getting kids to think for themselves and use their imagination. Dolls house's and Play house's and action figures are also fantastic for sparking kids to find their own story.
Role Play: This is all about children trying out being some one else, so any dressing up, hats, masks and even face paints will get them exploring new identities.
Creativity: This one is easy, think arts, crafts making and doing. Obviously I highly recommend a Rainy Day Box for the perfect creative gift.
Cognitive: Anything to hone those fine motor skills for perfect pen holding. I like Beading Kits, Jenga and Train tracks that have to be built for this one as all need concentration and a steady hand.
Physical: This one is pretty easy really, anything that gets them active. If your little ones are not into football or dancing why not get toys like a rocket launcher or bean bags or hula hoops for some lighthearted, energetic fun.
So there you have it one mums guide to getting more from your little ones toys, Happy Shopping x ALY x
